MuseumsQuartier

MuseumsQuartier, commonly abbreviated as MQ, is a large cultural complex in Vienna, Austria. Located in the city center, it brings together museums, exhibition spaces, and cultural institutions within a cohesive precinct that blends historic architecture with contemporary design. The site sits on the former imperial stables of the Hofburg, which were repurposed in the late 20th century as part of Vienna’s urban cultural strategy. The complex opened in its current form in the early 2000s and has since grown into one of Europe’s largest inner-city cultural hubs.

The MuseumsQuartier houses several major institutions. The Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig Wien (MUMOK) presents modern and contemporary art, while the Leopold Museum focuses on Austrian art from the 19th and 20th centuries, including works by Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele. Kunsthalle Wien hosts rotating contemporary art exhibitions, and Architekturzentrum Wien (Az W) concentrates on architecture and design. In addition to these, the MQ hosts a variety of temporary exhibitions, performance events, film screenings, and educational programs.
