Multiruumi

Multiruumi is a term used in speculative philosophy, cognitive science, and science fiction to describe the phenomenon of coordinating or inhabiting more than one embodied form. It covers scenarios in which a single agent operates multiple bodies simultaneously or embodiment is distributed across networks of bodies, devices, or avatars, while intent or agency remains unified, if such unity is present.

The term is a neologism formed from multi- meaning many, plus a root meaning body that appears in various languages or is constructed for the concept. It is used mainly in theoretical or imaginative contexts rather than as a clinical designation.

Variants include concurrent multiruumi (simultaneous control of several bodies), sequential multiruumi (embodied shifts over time), and distributed multiruumi (embodiment shared through telepresence or robotic networks).

Implications concern identity and continuity of self, responsibility when actions are carried out through multiple bodies, and questions of legal status, consent, and autonomy in human-machine and avatar-based configurations.

In culture and research, multiruumi appears in thought experiments and fiction about embodiment, as well as in discussions of distributed cognition, teleoperation, and tools that extend bodily agency.
