Multebær

Multebær, scientifically known as Rubus chamaemorus, is a low-growing herbaceous perennial plant that belongs to the rose family. It is native to Arctic and boreal regions of the Northern Hemisphere, commonly found in bogs, peatlands, and mountainous areas. The plant produces a single, amber-colored berry when ripe, which is known for its unique tart and slightly bitter flavor.

The berry is highly valued for its rich vitamin C content and is traditionally used in Scandinavian countries, particularly in Sweden, Norway, and Finland. It is often made into jams, jellies, liqueurs, and desserts. In some regions, it is also used in traditional medicine for its perceived health benefits. The harvesting of multebær is a seasonal activity, typically occurring in late summer. Due to its specific habitat requirements and slow growth, multebær can be challenging to cultivate, making wild harvesting the primary method of procurement. The plant itself is relatively small, usually reaching a height of no more than 25 centimeters, with distinctive white flowers that bloom in late spring or early summer. The distinctive appearance and limited geographical distribution contribute to the esteemed status of the multebær.
