Mozgásfüggőségek refer to a spectrum of conditions characterized by an unhealthy and compulsive preoccupation with physical activity, often to the detriment of an individual's overall well-being. Unlike healthy exercise habits, which are typically integrated into a balanced lifestyle, these dependencies involve an inability to control or moderate the drive to exercise. This can manifest as an excessive amount of time spent exercising, an inability to take rest days, and continued engagement in physical activity even when injured or unwell.

Individuals experiencing movement dependencies may feel intense anxiety, guilt, or irritability when they are unable to exercise. Their self-esteem and sense of identity can become heavily tied to their physical performance or appearance. This can lead to social isolation, as the compulsion to exercise may override commitments to friends, family, or work. Furthermore, it can contribute to physical health problems such as overtraining syndrome, stress fractures, eating disorders, and cardiovascular issues.

The underlying causes are often complex and can include psychological factors such as a need for control, a desire to cope with stress or negative emotions, or a history of disordered eating. While not yet formally recognized as a distinct diagnostic category in major classification systems, the concept of exercise addiction or movement dependency highlights the potential for physical activity to become a maladaptive coping mechanism. Treatment typically involves a multidisciplinary approach, including psychological therapy to address underlying issues, nutritional counseling, and a gradual reintegration of physical activity in a healthy and sustainable manner.
