Moetööstus

Moetööstus, also known as brewing, is the process of making beer, a popular alcoholic beverage. The term "moetööstus" is derived from the Estonian words "moe," meaning beer, and "tööstus," meaning industry. This industry involves several key steps: malting, mashing, boiling, fermentation, and packaging.

Malting is the first step, where barley is germinated and then dried, which activates enzymes that convert starches into fermentable sugars. Mashing follows, where the malted barley is mixed with hot water to extract these sugars. The mixture is then boiled with hops, which add bitterness and aroma to the beer.

Fermentation is the crucial step where yeast converts the sugars into alcohol and carbon dioxide. This process can take several days to a few weeks, depending on the type of beer being produced. After fermentation, the beer is typically cooled and filtered before being packaged.
