Mobilbagger

Mobilbagger is a self-propelled excavator designed to dig and move materials on construction and civil engineering sites. In German usage the term covers hydraulic excavators mounted on mobile chassis, with wheeled models often referred to as Radbagger and tracked models as Kettenbagger; both categories fall under the broader label of mobile excavators.

A Mobilbagger consists of a rotating upper structure with a boom, stick, and bucket, mounted on a powertrain and undercarriage. The hydraulic system powers the swing and digging functions. Most machines run on a diesel engine driving a hydraulic pump, and operator cabs feature joysticks for control. Quick-coupler systems allow swapping attachments such as buckets, breakers, grapples, and shears. Some models use hydraulic outriggers for added stability.

Performance and capabilities: Mobilbaggers are versatile for earthmoving, trenching, loading, demolition, and material handling. Reach, digging depth, and breakout force vary by size; wheel models emphasize on-site mobility and street work, while tracked models provide greater stability and trenching ability. Modern units may include machine-control features, telematics, and emissions-friendly engines.

Applications: They are used across construction, utilities, landscaping, and forestry with appropriate attachments. Their mobility allows quick transfer between sites and reduced setup time compared with larger, fixed excavators.

Safety and maintenance: Regular inspections, routine maintenance, and adherence to safety guidelines are standard. Emissions regulations and operator training apply in many regions.
