Mitmetuumalises

Mitmetuumalises is a Latvian word that translates to "multicore" in English. It refers to a type of processor, specifically a central processing unit (CPU), that contains two or more independent processing units, known as cores, on a single chip. Each core can function as a separate processor, allowing a multicore CPU to execute multiple tasks or threads simultaneously. This parallel processing capability significantly enhances a computer's performance and efficiency compared to single-core processors.

The development of multicore processors was driven by the need to overcome limitations in increasing the clock speed of single-core CPUs. Instead of making one core faster, manufacturers began adding more cores to achieve higher overall computational power. This architectural shift allows for better multitasking, faster execution of demanding applications, and improved responsiveness of operating systems. Modern computers, smartphones, and tablets almost universally employ multicore processors, with common configurations including dual-core, quad-core, hexa-core, octa-core, and even higher core counts.
