Mischbereifungen, also known as mixed tires or staggered wheels, refers to a configuration on a vehicle where tires of different sizes are used on the front and rear axles. This practice is common on many high-performance sports cars and some luxury vehicles. The typical setup involves wider tires on the rear axle compared to the front axle. This difference in tire width and sometimes aspect ratio can alter the vehicle's handling characteristics.

The primary reason for using mischbereifungen is to optimize performance. Wider rear tires can provide increased grip, which is beneficial for acceleration and traction, especially in rear-wheel-drive vehicles. This enhanced rear grip can help prevent wheelspin during hard acceleration and improve overall stability. The narrower front tires, on the other hand, can contribute to more responsive steering and reduce understeer, a tendency for the vehicle to turn less sharply than intended.
