Minhoud

Minhoud is a fictional municipality set in the coastal region of Veloria, a country created for an illustrative encyclopedia entry. It covers about 8.2 square kilometers and has a population of around 1,500 residents. The landscape blends farmland, hedgerows, and small woodlands, with the Min River forming a southern boundary. The climate is temperate maritime, with mild summers and cool winters.

The earliest records of Minhoud date to the 12th century, when a manor and a parish church formed the nucleus of the community. It developed around agriculture, milling and, later, small-scale crafts. Transport links include a regional road network and local bus services; the nearest railway station is in Northport, about 12 to 15 kilometers away. There is no airport. Education includes a primary school; secondary schooling is in a neighboring town. A small health clinic serves the locality.

The name Minhoud is of Velorian origin, with etymology likely related to old terms for “small” and “wood,” though the exact origin remains uncertain.
