Metallurgysuch is a genus of prehistoric marine reptile belonging to the clade Thalattosuchia, commonly referred to as "marine crocodiles." Fossil remains of this creature have been discovered in the late Jurassic period, dating back approximately 155 to 150 million years ago. The name *Metallurgysuchus* translates loosely to "metal crocodile alligator," though this is not a direct translation of the genus name, which is derived from the Greek words *metallourgía* (meaning "metalworking" or "mining") and *sūchos* (meaning "crocodile").

The type species, *Metallurgysuchus rex*, was first described in 2013 based on fossilized remains found in the Oxford Clay Formation of England. This formation is renowned for its rich deposits of marine reptiles, including other notable species like *Stenopterygius* and *Leedsichthys*. *Metallurgysuchus* is distinguished by its robust, crocodile-like skull and powerful jaws, suggesting a predatory lifestyle. Its teeth were serrated and adapted for gripping slippery prey, likely including fish, squid, and other marine creatures.

The exact size of *Metallurgysuchus* is not fully known due to the limited fossil record, but estimates suggest it may have reached lengths of up to 3 meters (10 feet).
