Merodach-Baladan, also known as Marduk-apla-iddina, was a king of Babylonia who reigned for a significant period in the late 8th century BCE. He is primarily remembered for his rebellions against the Neo-Assyrian Empire. Merodach-Baladan seized the Babylonian throne in approximately 721 BCE, a time when Assyria, under Tiglath-Pileser III and his successors, was consolidating its power in the region.
