Mardukaplaiddina
Marduk-apla-iddina, also known as Merodach-Baladan II, was a king of Babylon during the late 8th and early 7th centuries BCE. He belonged to the Chaldean–Babylonian elite that sought to reassert independence from the expanding Assyrian Empire. His rise to power occurred in the context of ongoing political fragmentation in southern Mesopotamia, and he is best known for his repeated attempts to restore Babylonian sovereignty amid Assyrian dominance.
