Menstruációs refers to the monthly shedding of the uterine lining in females of reproductive age. This physiological process is a crucial part of the menstrual cycle and involves hormonal changes that prepare the body for potential pregnancy. If pregnancy does not occur, the thickened uterine lining is shed, resulting in menstrual bleeding. The duration of menstruation typically ranges from 3 to 7 days, and the amount of blood loss can vary.

The menstrual cycle is regulated by a complex interplay of hormones, including estrogen, progesterone, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and luteinizing hormone (LH). These hormones orchestrate the development of an egg, ovulation, and the preparation of the uterus for implantation. The onset of menstruation, known as menarche, usually occurs between the ages of 10 and 16. Menstruation ceases at menopause, typically between the ages of 45 and 55.

Menstrual cycles can vary in length, typically ranging from 21 to 35 days, counting from the first day of one period to the first day of the next.
