MehrkanalAudio refers to audio reproduction systems that transmit and render more than two independent audio channels. The term is commonly used in German-language contexts to describe surround sound and related multi-channel technologies employed in cinema, home theater, and professional audio production.

A typical multichannel setup includes front left, center, front right, surround left and right, and a subwoofer, commonly known as a 5.1 configuration. Higher configurations such as 7.1 or 9.1 add additional rear or side channels.
