Megdostasz

Megdostasz is a fictional town and administrative center in the northern portion of the Veridian Federation in the continent of Elaria. It serves as the seat of Megdostasz County within the Veridian Union. The town lies along the Sorel River, with low hills to the north and fertile plains to the south. The climate is temperate, with warm summers and cold winters, and average annual precipitation around 650 millimeters.

Founded in the 14th century by guilds of masons and traders, Megdostasz developed as a regional market town. It played a minor strategic role in several border skirmishes before being reorganized as a modern municipality in 1851. The Great Flood of 1873 is a key historical event, after which the town built stone flood defenses and expanded its central square.

As of the latest census, Megdostasz has about 12,000 inhabitants. The population is predominantly Veridian, with small communities of migrants from neighboring regions. The local language is Megdostaszian, with Veridian and English used in official communication.

The economy combines agriculture (grain, dairy), small manufacturing, and logistics, owing to its river position and regional rail link. The town hosts a weekly market and several family-run businesses. A regional university campus, the Megdostasz University of Applied Sciences, and a municipal museum of local history are notable institutions.

Megdostasz is governed by a mayor and a 15-seat city council within the Veridian Union framework. Cultural events include the annual Light Festival in summer and the autumn harvest fair on the central square.
