Mediodorsalkern
Mediodorsalkern, or the mediodorsal nucleus of the thalamus, is a thalamic nucleus situated in the dorsal part of the thalamus. It is a key component of the limbic thalamus and serves as a relay between subcortical limbic structures and the prefrontal cortex. The nucleus is subdivided into several subnuclei, including magnocellular and parvocellular parts, which receive distinct inputs and project to different prefrontal regions.
Afferent connections originate mainly from limbic structures such as the amygdala and, to a lesser extent,
Functionally, the mediodorsalkern is implicated in memory formation and retrieval, decision making, attention, and other aspects
Clinical relevance of Mediodorsalkern emerges in disorders affecting thalamic circuits. Lesions or vascular events involving this
In neuroanatomy, the mediodorsalkern is recognized as part of the thalamic relay system linking emotion, memory,
