Mediacentrum

Mediacentrum is a term used in Dutch-speaking regions to describe a centralized facility or service that provides access to media resources and supports media production. It can refer to a physical space in schools, libraries, or cultural institutions, as well as an online portal that aggregates media content, tools, and workflows for creation and distribution.

Typical features include media collections (video, audio, images, multimedia software), production studios or editing suites, equipment lending services (cameras, microphones, lighting), and staff who assist with cataloging, rights management, and digital asset management. Many mediacentra offer training, workshops, and user support to help individuals learn media skills and to promote media literacy.

In education, mediacentra support classroom activities, project-based learning, journalism, and digital storytelling. In cultural or municipal settings, they preserve archives, host broadcasts or streams, and provide community access to media production facilities. They may operate as public or institutional services, funded by universities, libraries, municipalities, or cultural organizations.
