Mastaabisäästu, often translated as economies of scale, refers to the cost advantages that businesses obtain due to their scale of operation. This phenomenon suggests that as a company grows larger and produces more output, its average cost per unit of output decreases. This reduction in cost is achieved through various means.

One primary driver of mastaabisäästu is the ability to spread fixed costs over a larger volume of production. For instance, the cost of a factory or machinery remains relatively constant regardless of whether it produces 100 units or 10,000 units. As production increases, these fixed costs are divided among more units, lowering the cost associated with each individual unit.

Another factor is the increased bargaining power that larger firms possess. When purchasing raw materials or components in bulk, companies can often negotiate lower prices from suppliers. Similarly, larger organizations may be able to secure more favorable terms for financing or distribution.

Specialization and division of labor also contribute to mastaabisäästu.
