Maskinvareutstyr, often shortened to maskinvare, refers to the physical components of a computer system or electronic device. This encompasses everything that can be physically touched and seen, as opposed to programvare, which are the intangible instructions and data that tell the hardware what to do. Common examples of maskinvareutstyr include the central processing unit (CPU), the brain of the computer responsible for executing instructions; random-access memory (RAM), which provides temporary storage for active data and programs; storage devices like hard disk drives (HDDs) and solid-state drives (SSDs) for long-term data retention; and input/output devices such as keyboards, mice, monitors, and printers.

Other essential maskinvare components include the motherboard, which connects all the other parts, and the graphics processing unit (GPU), dedicated to rendering images and video. Power supplies, cooling systems, and network interface cards are also vital pieces of maskinvare. The functionality and performance of any electronic system are directly determined by the quality and specifications of its maskinvareutstyr.
