Maradna

Maradna is a coastal town and port in the fictional region of Valoria on the western shore of the Maradna Coast. The town sits at the mouth of the Silver River, with a protected harbor that has long served as a hub for fishing and trade. The surrounding landscape comprises low hills, salt flats near the shore, and patches of cedar forest inland. The climate is temperate maritime, with wet winters and relatively dry summers.

Maradna was established in the 12th century by merchant families seeking secure anchorage for ships plying coastal routes. It developed into a market town governed by a resident council and a guild for shipwrights. The construction of the breakwater in the 16th century solidified its role as a regional port, expanding its retail and provisioning functions. In later centuries it experienced periods of economic diversification, including fishing, storage, and small-scale manufacture of rope and netting.

Today Maradna maintains a mixed economy. Fishing and boat repairs remain core activities, while local markets sell seafood, textiles, and crafts. The town serves as a transportation link through a ferry connection to neighboring settlements and a small regional railway. The population is diverse, reflecting centuries of trade, with speakers of several languages and a tradition of charitable guilds and civic associations.

Notable sites include the Old Harbor district with timber-framed houses, the limestone Maradna Lighthouse, and the Market Gate, an arcade of merchants from the early modern period. The annual Festival of the Tides celebrates maritime heritage with music, crafts, and seafood feasts.
