Mantanani
Mantanani refers to a small island group off the northwest coast of Sabah, Malaysia, in the South China Sea. The archipelago comprises Mantanani Besar (the larger island) and Mantanani Kecil (the smaller one). The nearest landmass is the town of Kota Belud, and the islands are commonly accessed by fast boat from Kota Kinabalu or Kota Belud. The area is known for its white-sand beaches, clear waters, and coral reefs, making it a popular destination for snorkeling and beach activities. The surrounding habitat includes coral reefs, seagrass beds, and mangroves that support a variety of marine life, including reef fish, turtles, and occasional visits by dolphins. Historically, the waters around Mantanani hosted dugong populations, though sightings are rare today.
The resident community is modest, with a population primarily from the Bajau and other coastal groups. Economic
