Mamai, also spelled Mamay and sometimes referred to as Mamai Khan, was a prominent military leader and the de facto ruler of the western sector of the Golden Horde in the latter half of the 14th century. He did not hold the title of khan himself but exercised substantial political and military power through a network of loyal supporters and puppet rulers. His influence was centered along the Volga and Ural regions, where he controlled key fortresses and troops.
