Kulikovo
Kulikovo is a historical locality in Tula Oblast, Russia, most famous for the Battle of Kulikovo, a pivotal event in Russian history. This battle, fought on September 8, 1380, saw the Russian principalities, led by Dmitry Donskoy of Moscow, decisively defeat the Golden Horde, a Mongol-Tatar state. The victory marked a significant step towards Russian independence from Tatar-Mongol suzerainty, although full liberation would take another century.
The site of the battle is located on the Don River. Today, the Kulikovo Field State Museum-Reserve
