Malignitäten, also known as malignant tumors or cancers, refer to a group of diseases characterized by the uncontrolled growth and spread of abnormal cells in the body. These cells originate from normal tissues but undergo genetic mutations that disrupt the regulation of cell division, leading to the formation of a mass (tumor). Unlike benign tumors, which remain localized and do not pose a significant health risk, malignant tumors can invade surrounding tissues and metastasize, meaning they spread to distant organs through the bloodstream or lymphatic system.

The development of malignancy is influenced by a combination of genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors. Common causes include mutations in DNA due to exposure to carcinogens such as tobacco smoke, radiation, certain chemicals, and viruses like human papillomavirus (HPV) or hepatitis B. Treatment approaches vary depending on the type, stage, and location of the malignancy but may include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, or a combination of these methods. Advances in medical research have improved early detection, precision treatment, and supportive care, enhancing survival rates and quality of life for many patients.
