MainKinzig

MainKinzig is a region in the German state of Hesse that centers on the interaction of the Main and Kinzig river valleys. The term most commonly refers to the Main-Kinzig-Kreis, a rural district with its administrative seat in Hanau. The name reflects the district’s geographic position between the Main River to the west and the Kinzig River to the east.

Geography and composition: The district lies to the east of Frankfurt am Main and comprises a mix of urban, suburban, and rural areas. It includes several towns and municipalities such as Hanau, Maintal, Gelnhausen, Bruchköbel, Schlüchtern, and Bad Soden-Salmünster, among others. History: Main-Kinzig-Kreis was formed during Hessian district reforms in the 1970s through the consolidation of smaller districts.
