Kinzig

Kinzig is a geographic name in Germany that may refer to more than one place. The most notable uses are a river in Baden-Württemberg and a district in Hesse.

The Kinzig is a river in southwestern Germany, in the state of Baden-Württemberg. It rises in the Northern Black Forest and generally flows northward through the Kinzig Valley, passing towns such as Gengenbach and Wolfach before emptying into the Rhine near Kehl, opposite Strasbourg. The Kinzig valley is a distinct cultural and tourist region within the Black Forest, with landscapes characterized by woodlands, orchards, and historic timber-framed towns. The river has historically provided power for mills and industry along its course.

Main-Kinzig-Kreis is a district (Kreis) in Hesse, Germany. It lies to the east of Frankfurt am Main and is named after the Main and Kinzig rivers that traverse the area. The district’s administrative seat is Hanau. Main-Kinzig-Kreis comprises several municipalities and towns, including Maintal, Schlüchtern, and Gelnhausen.
