Mailsähköpostiohjelmia, commonly referred to as email clients, are software applications or web-based services that allow users to send, receive, and organize electronic mail. These programs act as an interface between the user and the email server, facilitating the entire email communication process.

Key functionalities of email clients include composing new messages, reading incoming emails, replying to or forwarding existing messages, and organizing mail into folders. Many clients also offer advanced features such as spell checking, message filtering and sorting, contact management (address books), and the ability to attach files to emails.

Email clients can be broadly categorized into desktop applications and webmail interfaces. Desktop clients, like Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, and Apple Mail, are installed directly onto a computer and store emails locally or synchronize them with a server. Webmail services, such as Gmail, Outlook.com, and Yahoo Mail, are accessed through a web browser and the emails are typically stored on the provider's servers.

The choice of an email client often depends on user preference, operating system, and the need for specific features. While desktop clients offer more offline access and potentially greater control over data, webmail provides accessibility from any device with internet access and often requires less local storage. Regardless of the type, email clients remain fundamental tools for modern digital communication.
