Maheshwar
Maheshwar is a historic town in Khargone district in western Madhya Pradesh, India, situated on the left bank of the Narmada River. It was the capital of the Holkar state during the 18th and early 19th centuries and remains associated with the dynasty's architectural legacy. The town's centerpiece is the Maheshwar Fort, also known as Ahilya Fort, which overlooks the river and houses palaces and temples built or expanded under the Holkar rulers, most notably Ahilyabai Holkar (1725–1795). The fort complex and the linked ghats form a prominent example of riverine Indian royal architecture, with religious sites clustered along the waterfront.
Maheshwar is also renowned for the Maheshwari handloom sarees, a traditional textile craft revived in the 20th
