Maedhallisia
Maedhallisia is a genus of fungi in the family Maedhallisiaceae, within the order Helotiales of the class Leotiomycetes, in the phylum Ascomycota. The genus was established to accommodate a small group of saprobic species that form tiny apothecia on decaying hardwood and leaf litter in temperate forests. Morphologically, the fruiting bodies are cup- or disc-shaped and range from pale to olive-brown, usually a few millimeters across. Microscopically, they produce eight-spored asci and hyaline, ellipsoid to fusiform ascospores about 12–16 micrometers long.
Maedhallisia species are mainly reported from temperate regions of Europe and North America, where they occur
The genus includes Maedhallisia borealis as the type species, with other described species such as Maedhallisia
