The concept refers to an integrated unit that combines an earth-electrode interface, a measurement module for earth resistance and continuity, a control processor, and protective functions such as fault indication and surge protection.

Operation relies on periodic verification of earth impedance, potential differences, and bonding integrity. The device may perform built-in tests by injecting a small current into the grounding network and analyzing the return signal to estimate resistance, detect open or corroded connections, and alert operators when targets are not met. It can also automatically adjust bonding points or trigger alarms and interlocks if a hazardous condition is detected.

Typical deployment includes critical facilities such as data centers, hospitals, substations, and manufacturing plants where stable grounding reduces the risk of equipment damage and operator shock during transient overvoltages or lightning.
