MOBO

MOBO can refer to multiple things. In music, MOBO stands for Music of Black Origin, a British awards program established in 1996 by Kanya King. The MOBO Awards recognize achievement by artists of African, Caribbean, or other black origin across genres such as hip hop, R&B, reggae, gospel, and dancehall. The annual ceremony in London has been a platform for emerging acts and established stars, with performances and milestones noted in the UK music industry. Over the years the awards have sometimes been subject to controversy concerning representation and organization, but they have remained a prominent event in promoting black-origin music in the UK.

In computing, MOBO is used as shorthand for motherboard, the main circuit board of a computer. The motherboard provides the physical mounting and electrical connections for the central processing unit, memory modules, storage interfaces, expansion cards, and input/output ports. It carries the chipset and power planes and determines features such as the supported CPU socket, RAM type and speed, and number of PCIe lanes. Motherboards are produced in standard form factors such as ATX, microATX, and Mini-ITX, and are chosen to fit the case and performance requirements.

The acronym MOBO therefore has two common usages in different fields; context usually clarifies which meaning is intended.
