Mätaradiklar, meaning "meter radiation" in Swedish, refers to the radiation emitted from older analog electricity meters, often found in residential and industrial settings before the widespread adoption of digital smart meters. These analog meters typically contained a small amount of radioactive material, such as radium or americium, to help calibrate the internal mechanisms and ensure accurate measurement of electricity consumption over time.

The radioactivity levels in these meters were generally very low and posed no significant health risk to occupants. The radiation was contained within the sealed meter casing, and the half-lives of the isotopes used meant that their radioactive decay was a slow process. However, concerns about potential exposure, particularly during meter replacement or disposal, led to their gradual phasing out.

Modern digital meters, or smart meters, do not contain radioactive materials. They utilize electronic components and communication technology to measure and transmit electricity usage data.
