Lülitus

Lülitus is a term in Estonian that describes the act of switching a device or circuit from one state to another, most commonly from off to on or on to off. The concept encompasses manual operation of a switch as well as automatic or remote control of electrical and electronic systems.

The word derives from the verb lülitama ("to switch") and the noun lüliti ("switch"). In everyday language lülitus can refer to both the physical action of pressing a button or flipping a lever and the functional change of a system, such as a mode switch or process activation.

In electronics and electrical engineering, lülitus is central to control and power systems. It includes switching transistors, relays, and other semiconductor devices, as well as changing logic states in digital circuits. Debouncing of mechanical switches is often required to ensure a single, clean transition, and proper lülitus sequencing is important for safe energization and de-energization of equipment.

In computing and automation, lülitus describes state transitions in finite-state machines, flip-flops, controllers, and other logic elements, where timing and synchronization influence performance and reliability.
