Lämpöliitäntöjen

Lämpöliitäntöjen, often translated as thermal interface materials (TIMs), are substances placed between heat-generating components and heat sinks to improve thermal conductivity. Their primary function is to fill microscopic air gaps present at the interface between two surfaces, which are typically not perfectly flat. Air is a poor conductor of heat, so these gaps create thermal resistance. By displacing the air with a material that has significantly higher thermal conductivity, heat transfer is enhanced.

These materials come in various forms, including thermal pastes, pads, adhesives, and even solders. Thermal pastes are semi-liquid compounds applied in a thin layer. Thermal pads are pre-formed sheets that are easy to apply and can accommodate slight surface irregularities. Thermal adhesives provide both electrical and thermal conductivity and bond components together. Thermal solders, or low-melting-point alloys, are used in more demanding applications requiring robust thermal and mechanical connections.
