LungenCT

LungenCT refers to a Computed Tomography (CT) scan of the lungs. This medical imaging technique uses X-rays to create detailed cross-sectional images of the chest, providing a comprehensive view of the lung tissue, airways, blood vessels, and surrounding structures. LungenCT is a powerful diagnostic tool used by physicians to identify and evaluate a wide range of pulmonary conditions.

The procedure typically involves lying on a table that moves through a ring-shaped scanner. As the scanner rotates, it emits X-rays that pass through the body. Detectors on the opposite side measure the amount of X-ray absorption, and a computer processes this data to construct detailed cross-sectional images. The patient is usually asked to hold their breath for short periods during the scan to minimize motion blur.

LungenCT is frequently employed to detect and assess conditions such as pneumonia, lung nodules or masses, emphysema, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), interstitial lung diseases, and pulmonary embolism. It can also be used to monitor the progression of known lung diseases or to assess the effectiveness of treatment. In some cases, a contrast dye may be injected intravenously to enhance the visibility of blood vessels and certain abnormalities. The radiation dose from a LungenCT is higher than from a standard X-ray, but the diagnostic benefits often outweigh the risks, especially when investigating serious conditions.
