Loengus

Loengus is a small town in the highlands of the eastern nation of Vielmark. It lies at the confluence of the Darn River and a network of streams, with surrounding hills and dense conifer forests. The climate is temperate with cold winters and short, bright summers.

The name Loengus is believed to derive from an older local language, with elements meaning meadow and grove. The town's recorded history begins in the 12th century, when it developed around a rural monastery. A defensive watchtower and later a stone bridge anchored trade routes, and by the 16th century Loengus had grown into a regional market center. The town preserved a charter during the 18th century and experienced modest industrial growth in textiles and timber during the 19th century before reverting to agriculture in the 20th century.

As of the latest census, Loengus has about 3,900 residents. It is governed by a town council and is part of the Vielmark Northeast district, with a mayor elected every four years.

The local economy relies on dairy farming, sheep herding, timber, and small-scale crafts, with tourism centered on natural landscapes and historic sites.

Culturally, Loengus preserves a regional dialect of Vielmari and hosts an autumn harvest festival, a weekly farmers' market, and artisan markets. Notable landmarks include the ruins of Loengus Abbey, the serene Lake Serin, and the Old Mill, which now houses a local history museum.

The town is linked by road to regional highways and is served by Loengus Junction railway station on the Northline, with regular bus services to neighboring communities.
