Lisääntymismenettelyillä refers to assisted reproductive technologies (ART) used to help individuals or couples achieve pregnancy when natural conception is difficult or impossible. These methods involve the manipulation of eggs, sperm, or embryos outside the body.

The most common ART procedure is in vitro fertilization (IVF). IVF involves stimulating a woman's ovaries to produce multiple eggs, which are then retrieved surgically. These eggs are fertilized with sperm in a laboratory setting. The resulting embryos are cultured for a few days before one or more are transferred to the woman's uterus.

Other ART procedures include: Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), where a single sperm is injected directly into an egg; gamete intrafallopian transfer (GIFT), where eggs and sperm are transferred into the fallopian tube; and zygote intrafallopian transfer (ZIFT), where fertilized eggs are transferred into the fallopian tube.

ART can be used to address various fertility issues, such as blocked fallopian tubes, male infertility, ovulation disorders, endometriosis, and unexplained infertility. It can also be utilized by same-sex couples or single individuals wishing to have children.

While ART has a high success rate for many, it is a complex and often emotionally taxing process. The success rates vary depending on factors such as age, the cause of infertility, and the specific clinic. Ethical considerations and legal regulations surrounding ART are also important aspects of its practice.
