Lipputuloten

Lipputuloten is a municipality in Nordmark, a coastal country in the northern region. It lies on the shallow coastal plain along the northeastern shore of the Gulf of Stor, about 60 kilometers east of Nordmark City. The municipality covers 78 square kilometers and has a temperate maritime climate, with mild summers and cool winters.

Etymology and history: The name Lipputuloten derives from old dialects, with suggested elements lipput meaning flag and tuloten meaning meadow or place; the exact origin remains uncertain. The settlement dates back to medieval times; a market town charter was granted in the 18th century, and the town developed around fishing, shipbuilding, and trade.

Economy and geography: Lipputuloten includes a harbor that serves local fishing fleets and a small ferry connection. The economy now also includes wind energy facilities and maintenance services. Agriculture centers on dairy farming and potatoes, with a cooperative producing value-added products.

Governance and demographics: The municipality is governed by a council of 21 members, elected every four years; the current mayor serves a four-year term. Population is approximately 5,800 (as of 2023), with a generally aging rural demographic and strong local identities. Signage is commonly bilingual in Nordmarkian and minority languages.

Culture and landmarks: The central square features Lipputuloten Church, a stone church dating from the 13th century, and a maritime statue. The Lipputulen festival is held annually, celebrating coastal heritage with music and crafts. Institutions include the Lipputuloten Maritime Museum and a regional training school.
