Linuxptpprojekti refers to the Linux PTP Project, a community effort focused on developing and maintaining the Precision Time Protocol (PTP) implementation for the Linux operating system. The Linux PTP Project provides a user-space implementation of the PTP protocol, commonly known as ptp4l and phc2sys. Ptpd4l is the main daemon responsible for synchronizing clocks across a network using PTP, while phc2sys synchronizes the system clock with the hardware clock that has been synchronized by ptp4l. The project aims to offer a robust, configurable, and efficient PTP solution that leverages hardware timestamping capabilities available on many network interface cards (NICs) for optimal accuracy.
