Linnansaari

Linnansaari National Park is a protected area in Finland that lies in the eastern part of the country, in Southern Savonia near the city of Savonlinna. It forms part of the Saimaa lake system and covers a mosaic of large and small islands, islets, and extensive shoreline along Lake Haukivesi. The landscape features rocky shores, pine-dominated forests, and mire areas, with a network of bays and open water that typifies the Saimaa archipelago.

The park is especially notable for its conservation value, including the Saimaa ringed seal, a freshwater seal endemic to the Saimaa water system. The seal population is a focal point of management and monitoring, and the area protects habitats important for breeding and resting. Flora across the park includes typical boreal forest species and wetland vegetation, with seasonal changes in color and wildlife activity.

Access and recreation: Linnansaari is visited for nature observation, boating, kayaking, hiking, and camping. The terrain offers marked trails, island-hopping routes, and scenic viewpoints. Some areas may have restrictions to protect wildlife, particularly during sensitive periods.
