Lhaviyani

Lhaviyani is a coral island atoll in the Maldives. It is part of the Haa Alif atoll. The atoll consists of two islands, Hitteeway, also known as Hidhodi, and Kahi Thera, also known as Erikoagandu. The population of the atoll is approximately 1,279 residents, according to the 2006 census.

Lhaviyani is a significant location in the Maldives due to its geographical position. It is situated in the northern part of the country, bordering the Indian Ocean to the west and the deep-sea channel, also known as the Hafaru Channel, to the northwest.

The climate of Lhaviyani is typical of tropical regions. It experiences high humidity levels and temperatures throughout the year, with average temperatures ranging from 18 to 32 degrees Celsius. The region receives significant rainfall during the monsoon season, but the weather remains generally dry.

Island activities include fishing and port operations, and tourism is not a major aspect of the island's economy, in contrast to other Maldivian atolls. The island is mainly involved in the fishing industry and as a refueling stop for cargo ships and fishing vessels. The fishing industry is regulated by strict fisheries regulations, mainly directed against overfishing and maintains fish and other marine resources.
