Levercystor

Levercystor, also known as liver cysts, are fluid-filled sacs that develop within the liver. These cysts are typically benign and often discovered incidentally during imaging procedures such as ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Most liver cysts are asymptomatic, meaning they do not cause noticeable symptoms, and require no treatment.

There are different types of liver cysts, including simple cysts, which are the most common and usually benign. Simple cysts are lined with a thin layer of epithelium and contain clear, watery fluid. Other types include complex cysts that may have septations or solid components, which could warrant further investigation to rule out malignancy. In some cases, cysts may be associated with polycystic liver disease or congenital conditions.

Liver cysts are generally asymptomatic, but large cysts or numerous cysts may cause abdominal discomfort, bloating, or a feeling of fullness. Rarely, cysts can rupture, become infected, or cause compression of adjacent structures.

Diagnosis is primarily achieved through imaging studies, with ultrasound being the first-line modality. CT and MRI provide more detailed information, especially for complex cysts or when malignancy is suspected.

Treatment is usually unnecessary for simple, asymptomatic cysts. For symptomatic or complicated cysts, options include aspiration, sclerotherapy, or surgical removal, such as cyst fenestration or hepatectomy.

Prognosis for liver cysts is generally excellent, especially for simple cysts without complications. Regular monitoring is recommended for cysts that are large or symptomatic, to ensure they do not develop further issues.
