Levegtisztítókat, often translated as air purifiers, are electronic devices designed to remove contaminants from the air within a confined space. They work by drawing in air, passing it through a filtration system, and then releasing the cleaner air back into the room. The primary goal of these devices is to improve indoor air quality, which can be affected by various pollutants such as dust, pollen, pet dander, mold spores, smoke particles, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

Different types of air purifiers employ various filtration technologies. HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) filters are a common and highly effective component, capable of trapping at least 99.97% of airborne particles 0.3 micrometers in diameter. Activated carbon filters are often used in conjunction with HEPA filters to absorb odors, gases, and VOCs. Other technologies include UV-C light, which can kill bacteria and viruses, and ionizers, which release negative ions to make airborne particles clump together and fall out of the air, though concerns about ozone production exist with some ionizer models.

The effectiveness of an air purifier depends on several factors, including the size of the room it is intended for, the type and concentration of pollutants, and the quality of the filters used. Regular maintenance, such as cleaning or replacing filters, is crucial for optimal performance.
