Leshy, also spelled Leshy or Lesiy, is a figure from East Slavic folklore described as the guardian and ruler of the forest. Commonly depicted as a tall, shaggy male figure who can blend into the woods, the Leshy is a shapeshifter capable of altering his size and taking forms such as a hunter, an animal, or a tree. He is deeply associated with trees, plants, weather, and wildlife, and is said to control the forest’s paths and the behavior of animals. In legends, the Leshy may lure travelers, mislead them, or even abduct children, yet he can also protect the forest and punish those who threaten it.
