Lensverwijdering

Lensverwijdering, also known as lens extraction, is a surgical procedure to remove the natural lens of the eye. This procedure is most commonly performed to treat cataracts, a clouding of the lens that impairs vision. During the procedure, a small incision is made in the eye, and the cloudy lens is broken into smaller pieces and removed. In most cases, the natural lens is then replaced with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL).

The process of lensverwijdering can be done using different techniques, including phacoemulsification, which uses ultrasound waves to break up the lens, and extracapsular cataract extraction, where the lens is removed in one piece.
