Lenkvalitet

Lenkvalitet is a term used in Norwegian to describe the overall performance and reliability of a network link between two points. It covers how well data can be transmitted under given conditions, including speed, latency, stability, and error rates. Lenkvalitet is influenced by the physical medium, transmission hardware, network protocols, and current traffic load.

Key metrics used to assess lenkvalitet include latency (round-trip time), jitter, packet loss, and available bandwidth or throughput. In wireless contexts, additional indicators such as signal strength, signal-to-noise ratio, and link margin are relevant. In mobile networks, radio-related indicators like CQI (channel quality indicator), RSRP (reference signal received power), RSRQ (signal quality), and RSSI may be used to reflect actual link quality. For fiber or copper connections, optical power, attenuation, and bit error rate (BER) are important. Overall user experience is often linked to lenkvalitet, as higher quality links reduce page load times, buffering, and the likelihood of dropped calls or streams.

Measurement and evaluation of lenkvalitet involve both active and passive approaches. Active measurements use probes or tests (for example, ping, traceroute, or dedicated speed tests) to gauge performance. Passive monitoring collects ongoing traffic statistics through network devices. Measurements should account for time-of-day variation and different usage scenarios, and may be used for capacity planning, quality assurance, and service-level agreement (SLA) monitoring.

Common factors affecting lenkvalitet include distance, interference, line-of-sight conditions, hardware performance, routing changes, QoS configurations, and overall network congestion.
