Leishmanien
Leishmanien refers to the protozoan parasites of the genus Leishmania, a group that causes leishmaniasis in humans and other mammals. In some languages the parasites are described as Leishmanien. They are kinetoplastid protozoa in the family Trypanosomatidae and are transmitted by female phlebotomine sandflies. The life cycle alternates between a promastigote form in the sandfly and an amastigote form inside host macrophages after transmission by a bite.
