Leikkialueille

Leikkialueille is the illative plural form of leikkialue, meaning “to play areas” or “for play areas” in Finnish. In practice the term refers to spaces designated for children's play, and it encompasses both outdoor playgrounds and indoor play spaces that are designed for recreational activities, physical development, and social interaction.

Leikkialueet are typically equipped with age-appropriate play equipment such as swings, slides, climbing structures, and tactile or imaginative play elements. They are designed with safety considerations in mind and include features such as safe surfacing, clear sightlines for supervision, shade, seating for caregivers, and fencing or barriers where appropriate. Accessibility is increasingly emphasized, with ramps, ground-level play elements, and accessible routes to ensure inclusion for children with disabilities.
