Lavoe, born Héctor Lavoe, was a Puerto Rican singer and songwriter, widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in salsa music. Born on January 13, 1946, in Santurce, Puerto Rico, Lavoe began his musical career in the late 1960s, performing in local clubs and bars. His distinctive voice and energetic stage presence quickly garnered him a loyal following.

Lavoe's breakthrough came in the early 1970s with the release of his debut album, "Héctor Lavoe," which featured the hit single "El Malo." His subsequent albums, such as "Soy Lavoe" and "El Gran Combo," solidified his status as a leading figure in the salsa genre.
