Lauflicht

Lauflicht, also known as "running light" or "chaser light," is a visual effect created by a sequence of lights that appear to move or chase each other. This effect is commonly achieved by illuminating individual lights in a rapid succession, giving the illusion of movement. Lauflicht can be seen in various applications, from decorative lighting displays to traffic signals and industrial signage.

The principle behind Lauflicht is a phenomenon known as apparent motion, also referred to as the phi phenomenon. When discrete visual stimuli are presented in rapid succession at different spatial locations, the human brain perceives them as a single moving object. The speed and spacing of the illuminated lights, along with their intensity and color, can influence the perceived speed and smoothness of the Lauflicht effect.

In its simplest form, Lauflicht can be created using a series of light bulbs connected in a circuit that energizes them one after another. More sophisticated implementations utilize microcontrollers or programmable logic controllers (PLCs) to precisely control the timing and sequence of illumination for a large number of LEDs.
